Gurveen Dhillon
Gurveen Dhillon recently graduated from UTM with a double major in Biology for Health Science and Chemistry. During her third year at UTM, she contributed to the photovoice research project titled Living, Meaning-Making and Belongingness in the South Asian Indian Diaspora in the GTA in Dr. Ganapathy-Coleman's lab. She received training in photovoice, assisted in reviewing relevant literature, recruiting participants, conducted and transcribed interviews, and conducted qualitative data analysis. Gurveen also supported the team’s efforts to better understand the lived experiences of South Asian immigrant communities through her multilingual abilities, translating key documents for the study into Punjabi. Through this project, she developed deep interests in cultural adaptation and how its effect on the well-being of the individuals as well as the community. She further aims to explore community-based research pertaining to mental well-being through future opportunities.
