Haniya Khan

Haniya is a fifth-year undergraduate Psychology major and was a Research Assistant at the SAIL-GTA Lab ran by Dr. Hema Ganapathy-Coleman. She assisted with data collection, photo-voice group facilitation, ethnographic interviewing, and qualitative data analysis related to the everyday lives of members of the South Asian diaspora in the GTA. Her contributions focused on first and second generation Indian-Canadians aged 18-65 in the Peel region in as part of the first phase photo-voice research project exploring the various events and experiences characteristic to everyday living in the diaspora. Haniya's research interests lie in intergenerational trauma, cross-cultural development, sociocultural anthropology, and South Asian diaspora acculturation. As well, her lived background as a second-generation Indian-Canadian Muslim has shaped her research interests surrounding the South Asian diaspora.
